Ok..
I just bought Thermaltake Volcano 7 (not 7+) and I have a question for you guys...

Volcano 7 has that stupid diode on the outside.
I've read some posts that people cut off the diode and connected those two wires together so it always spins on 5000rpms...
Would u suggest I do that or should I just leave it as it is???

Thanks so much guys....

How are your temps running? If it's hot, try wiring the leads so the fan run full-on 24/7; if temps are OK, then leave it be. TT has released a Volcano 7+ with a 3-speed switch instead of the sensor so people can easily pick how much noise/cooling they want.

oh I didn't install it yet
I just wanted to do it before the installation so I do not have to take the whole computer apart
they also sell those fan speed control switches on svc and stuff
I dunno if that one would work with Volcano 7 though

If you want it to run faster I'd say put the diode inbetween two of the fins on the heat sink. I don't know about connecting the two wires though. However if you leave the diode as is the speed of the fan will be based on the case temp and not the temp of the cpu.

yeah I know that it measures the case temp
but my case temp never ever goes above 30C and that's an old case
I bought a new one Chaintech with 4 fans
so that one is definitely not gonna do it:)
i'll try to put them in between fins, that's not a bad idea at all:)
thanks

I have a similar setup to you. 8kha+ mobo, Fong Kai 603 case, XP 1600@1531, and the volcano 7. My case temps run at about 31 (under the desk in a bad spot). I put the diode inside the heat sink and that works pretty well. The cpu temp never gets above 45 with the case side panel on (system temp gets up to 33 after long game sessions). The cpu fan will occassionally spin up to 4500 or so.

With the case side panel off, the system temps are about 25 and the cpu temp never gets above 41. It generally hovers around 40. Idles at 37. The fan spins at about 3000 and maxes at about 3800. It is actually not much louder with the side panel off since the fan is spinning more slowly.

If your system is cool, I would definitely move the diode. It is very easy to do and will keep the fan responding to the temp fluctuations. I've heard that you should tape or glue the diode to one of the fins to give you more accurate readings. If you can tape it, I'd try that. Mine is just sitting down there.
