Why wouldn't you get the Zalman one? At least its completely silent. This one is running the same method except with an active fan on it, and I'm lost on the nickel plating...looks nice, but I would think it would be a bad idea to but lesser conductive metals in the system

This one is considerably cheaper than the Zalman. However, I would bet that the Zalman performs better. I think that the nickel does, indeed, hinder peformance.

Ok, a couple of things here....the heatsink itself is aluminum, and it's anodized, the only thing nickel plated here is the heatpipe itself. The conduction performed by a heatpipe is done on the inside by a liquid. The nickel plating is just for looks!

If you can figure out how to nickel plate aluminum economically, we can all go into business and make a ton of money! (I'm a veteran of 20 years QA experience in electroplating..)

well if the nickel is between the copper housing of the heatpipe, and the block that sits on the GPU, then yes, it hinders. The heatpipe will still work, but the nickel shouldn't be conducting heat to the heatpipe as efficiently as it would straight to copper

i think ocsystem.com has the platinum/chrome one, and if you choose the regular one, they have a custom color option
i'd take hte zalman just because its silent

It is if you buy it directly from them. I have a Zalman which was packaged for CompUSA and it's blue.

Both the TT and Z are $25. The silver color as supplied to Sapphire is available on e-Bay occasionally. I didn't know compusa had a blue one. Now I loathe my having a Zalman branded gold color one even more.

The engineers at TT must be retarded for:
1. putting a fan on it
2. moreover for putting said fan on the front
3. even moreoever for putting said front fan over the core in place of sink material which interfaces with the heatpipe

The whole point of the heatpipe is to wick heat away from the core where it can be more remotely dissipated. If a fan is to be used it should be on the back and would hopefully be larger and slower (and thus quieter) than those dinky conventional 50mm ones. Dumb.

I've noticed that the TT stuff is really noisy for what it is. I wouldn't go this route simply because it has a fan and the whole idea of a heatpipe, at least in my opinion, is to be silent or damn near silent. I think TT stuff is more about marketing to kids with the looks of their stuff rather than performance. That's just my perception of TT.
