Can you guys put these in order from best to worst? I would like lots of feedback before I go and spend some money.
note: my case lid has a window with a plastic pipe that adjusts all the way to the cpu fan so that the air is sucked from outside. i think this would be good to keep in mind.
Thanks a lot....

all of them are good.Pretty equal actually. But my choice would be the thermaltake big typhoon. The vx version has a much more powerful fan too.

Depends entirely on what you want to with them, as they come with different fans that differ in RPM and thus vary in noise. They also perform differently depending on how much you under-volt the fan. But generally, the Scythe Infinity is the best heatsink, certainly beats the Big Typhoon (got that one myself) and is great value for money, as the included fan is great for silencing. The Zalman's probably don't perform as well as the other's for silencing puposes, but come with a "Fan mate II" which can be used to adjust the voltage form ~7-12V.
If you don't mind noise, get a Scythe Infinity or a Tuniq and slap a 120mm fan with higher RPM (2000+) on it for very good cooling.
The Scythe is also easier to mount than the others, Scythe put a little thought into this.

Its truly a crap shoot!! Close your eyes and pick one.....and get it..then install it and use it!!

There id no such thing as best of...when comparing heatsinks. Why?
because there are way to masny variables from system to system.....what could be a very good heatsink on one PC could very well be shizza on another PC!!

ok guys thanks for ur thought...ive come to the conclusion that due to that my case has 2 side windows and one is round for a tube that extends to the cpu fan i will get the Big Thyphoon and i will remove this plastic tube and stick a 120mm fan in this window so it blows air into BT's fan....i hope that sounds good cuz thats what imma do....thanks a lot for ur help....if it wasnt for that window i prob would had chosen another cooling....
thanks again

actually none of the listed heatsinks are weak at all.....
all the reviews of the zalman 9500 and the 9700 place it right up there will the best of them....they all are real fine heatsinks!!

Whichever one you pick, make sure you spend as much time researching installation tips and installing it correctly as you do picking it. Lapping and proper application of AS5 can mean 10-15C difference.

I have the Scythe Infinity and am happy with it, although I have to disagree that the mounting system is anything to write home about. I found a post on the XS forums on how to use screws and thumbscrews. It is now VERY easy to uninstall and reinstall, and is very tight and secure.

Good luck!

Tuniq tower is 'considered' the best, but it's really hard to find in stock. The differences are miniscule, to top it off ;)

zalman 9700 is really cheap on newegg, at the moment.

i guess u dont need AS5 smart guy

it really us way over rated....

There are thermal pastes on the market now that are as good or better...

Many many companies ship high quality thermal pastes with there products such as heatsinks!!

I have used as5 and done comparisions between thermal compounds that ship with heatsinks and as5.

I have most of the top heatsinks....Tuniq....ThermalRight Ultra 120....both Zalman heatsinks as well as the Big Typhoon abd several others....I have quite a collection!!

all the top heatsink manufacturers such as Zalman and Scythe and ThermalRight along with Arctic Cooling all send a high quality thermal paste with the heatsinks!!

So ues...I guess I am a smart guy and NO I donot use as5 or any as product!!

oh well. i barely have an idea of the issue here, ill find out what paste comes with the heatsink, and as for selection, i think the BT is the best for me since i got that window in the side where i can stick a 80mm fan easily in it.....also my friend works at Gateway and hes got some paste i think, for the cpu!!
if you(bjp999) could tell me where i could find a different guide for installing heatsinks so i can look for a guide for BT....
or just tell me what is that XS forum.....
thx

XS = XtremeSystems. A google search of "xs forum" had the site as the first hit!

You should use google and seach for the HSFs you're considering. You'll get hits from XS, here, and lots of other places. You'll find stories with people saying its great and other saying its crap. Take it all with a grain of salt. Finding someone with your MB is a big plus, because sometimes these monsters hit something and have to be dremeled to fit properly! (I learned this the hard way).

AS5 (Arctic Silver 5) is the TIM that 95% of the OCers use. There is a liquid metal product that is supposed to have excellent thermal properties (like 8 times better than AS5), but it does eat aluminium on contact and has a nasty habbit of sticking the HSF to the CPU so that it can't be removed! One user in this forum reported that it ran like water off his CPU and spilled on his motherboard and it was a complete loss as it ate away at the aluminum parts. The last time I looked (about 2 months ago), AS5 was the next best to that. Since AS5 only costs $6, I don't see the big deal. But to each his own. (If you use something else and have temperature problems, the first thing people are going to say is to use AS5.)

Read about lapping your HSF.

Good luck!

at one time AS5 was the TIM ovrclockers used!!! Now as more and more fine thermal pastes enter the market that has alresady started to change!!!

Not all motherboards of the same exact type will need to be dremeled....

Also NOT all heatsinks need to be lapped!!

Even though lapping can produce some amazing results!!!

:D
