TT Air Duct

Anyone seen this yet?
I wouldn't work well in my setup, as it would almost completely block the inner psu exhaust any way I angled it, but the science of it is valid and it looks promising.

I saw this earlier. I wish they gave more info on its dimensions. Checked TTs websit too, but SVC just copied their info.

I wonder how much weight this is going to add to already to heavy heatsinks. Plus, it will stick out pretty far and be unbalanced.

speaking from a physics standpoint, the farther out something hangs, the "heavier" it is...

the weight is multiplied by the distance from the origin when it isn't at the origin....

if anyone with stong mechanical physics knowledge cares to elaborate, please do

Also, the farther the air has to travel, the lower the flow. What eklass said was right. I don't think this would be the best thing to use on one of the heavier heatsinks, especially one not bolted through the motherboard.

Yeah your right it is the distance times the force. The fan and duct will create a torque on the heatsink... possibly making it not touch the cpu core if the clipping mechanism is not very strong. A good way to fix this would be have a duct go from the case exhuast to the heatsink... this way the fan is mounted on the case. This is what many oems do such as Dell. Having the fan mounted on a duct like that would also increase vibration if the fan itself was off balance.

The picture they show for the theory behind the duct is pretty much correct though. Going off beatle's comment, I dont thing the flow would be reduced because the duct is so short.

edit: mass flow rate is not reduced by distance. The mass flow rate coming out of the pipe (duct) will be the same no matter how long the pipe is.


All in all I dont see how this could improve your cpu temps any significant amount. Maybe a fraction of a degree if that.

This mod may work well with a SLK900. The duct will also reduce turbulence which will make it quieter.
