Tsunami Dream vs. Antec Sonata

I'm thinking of getting either Tsunami or Sonata, both with the stock power units? Are both stock power units good? Any other cases to consider?

tsunami = cheap rip off of wavemaster.

For room when working with your computer get a wavemaster.

For a "set it and forget it" system, go with the Sonata for its quietness, sterdyness and awsome paint job.

Does the Sonata look nice in person? Is the stock power unit worthy?

The CoolerMaster Praetorian or Wavemaster look awesome. I love the Waaavemaster. What's the difference between the two? Do they come with a power unit? The Praetorian is very similar in looks to a Lian-Li.

Are the CoolerMaster models much bigger than the Sonata?

Sonata looks great in person. The black has a mirror like finish to it that cannot be beat. The stock power supply is worthy of almost all systems.

The Sonata is the best PSU/case combination, both items are top notch. Nearly every month, Fry's sells it for $59.99 AR....

The Sonata definitely has a nice finish and a very mature and professional look. Great PSU, I'm power the system in my sig with these fans:
-2x120mm (on FAN ONLY connectors)
-80mm Arctic Cooling in the front
-92mm Zalman on quiet mode (on top of XP-90)
-5V'ed Vantec Spectrum Card Fan
-5V'ed 80mm Sunon Fan

it's not the greatest for cooling though. I'm someone mixed about putting the XP-90 in the Sonata cuz my mobo temps have risen a bit, I think the massive size is disrupting the rear exhaust airflow a bit. But if you let the stock case fan run at 12V (meaning normal connectors), that fan can push a tonne of air.

I just checked their website and it's listed as $89.99.

I really was wanting to go to an all aluminum case but you guys are doing a good job in changing my mind. Would you go Sonata over the 3700BQE?

If you want to consider another nice case look at the Silverstone Temjin. I own a Tsunami Dream and it's good too.
Also I've seen the Wavemaster and it's nice too. And I've seen the Sonata and it's nice too. I've seen the Praetorian and it's nice too...

Gosh... so many to choose from. I think the next case I get will either be a Silverstone or a Coolermaster. (I've owned Antec, Enermax, and Thermaltake cases) I like my Tsunami the best.

If you're looking for the best bang for the buck get the Sonata. If you're looking to spend a little more get the Tsunami Dream. (There is nothing wrong with it don't listen to the 'haters' they have no clue. It's an excellent case with absolutely stellar reviews)

I was sold on the Tsunami, but then I took a look at the Super Lanboy, and the price tag converted me. I was getting a sepertate PSU anyway, so I'm going with the Lanboy now. Good cooling, small, light, and still fairly cool looking. The Sonata is just kinda boring.

All this talk about how bad the Tsunami Dream is. Plastic, noisy, poorly ventilated. Yet I already have one, and spent more than $150 on it. Isn't there anyone else who likes the Tsunami Dream?

Agree, I replaced my Sonata with the SLB and have no regrets. The SLB has excellent cooling and is more lively than the casket looking Sonata. Not to say I didn't like the Sonata, just wanted a change. There is no better case/PSU combination available today that will beat the Sonata.....

m 🙂

I have the Tsunami and it is a great case. I highly recommend it. There just seem to be alot of Thermaltake snobs here at AnandTech.

Nice system

I think Thermaltake makes some of the nicest looking cases. But its all about certain tastes. I got the Xaser III Lanfire that I am gonna use for my new Athlon 64 build and I really like the looks of it. I would have went with the Tsunami if I was buying new but I got the Lanfire used with a 420watt TT PSU for $75 shipped.

Get the Tsunami Dream if you like it. (There is nothing wrong with it don't listen to the 'haters' they have no clue. It's an excellent case with absolutely stellar reviews)

I had my mind set on the Super Lanboy, but after seeing a fw other cases such as the Cooler Master Cavalier I may get something else, but I have heard plenty of good things about the lanboy and it is on sale every once in a while for real cheap.

i like my Tsunami a lot. Nice airflow, tolerable noise (stock fans), and great looks. Would buy again!

New TT Overature (or watever) looks about the same (shinier though) but has dual 12cm intake fans. However, its mostely plastic, so NVM!

I think you are mistaken on that point. I believe the ThermalTake was saying that it has dual 12cm fans, but only one in front and one in back, the same as the Tsunami Dream.
It's called the Soprano.

I have the silver Tsunami (w/ window) and I like it a lot. It's very roomy and I like the rails for the 5.25" bays and thumbscrews and rubber grommets for the HDD bay. Also, the HDD and Floppy drive bays are removable, making it easier to install the drives and shove cables behind there.

1. It's called the Soprano

2. It DOES NOT have dual 12cm intakes  ONE in the front, ONE in the back

And it's steel
