TSMC chips can get 2.5hrs extra compared to Samsung on iPhone 6S Plus

If this is proven true I'll seriously bring mine in and demand a TSMC phone. That's like selling a stock 1715mAh battery in one iPhone, and another iPhone with a 1375mAh battery for the same price. I expect huge backlash.

The reviewer for Anandtech only has TSMC chip phones on hand from twitter. Wonder if they'll incorporate this into the review because it's a BIG FUCKING DEAL.

Luckily I have TSMC because the stress of Samsung would be very annoying.

Probably a good idea to wait and see it verified before jumping to conclusions based on a single test in China with only two devices.

Why does Apple continue to get their single biggest competitor to fab their chips anyway? Can TSMC not supply enough to meet demand?

Check Macrumors thread. A lot of Geekbench battery results confirming the same thing.

Not to mention, if this wasn't chip related (which is 100% is at this point), it would imply huge variance in battery life for no reason.

It's unconfirmed but there's a rumour going around that TSMC chips were 70% more expensive. Just think of the repercussions and fallout of all this.

Ruh roh - this is bad for Apple and Samsung. I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung gimped their's on purpose. How do I check which chip I have?

Any idea where to get the cpu info on the itunes version. No details under cpu name.

Sorry, I used the website app few days ago. Someone on reddit posted the app store app. Does that app give you the model number? I remember for 6sPlus n66ap is Samsung and n66map is TSMC. regular 6s not sure

If Apple listed the power and performance specs using the Samsung chip I wouldnt think it would be that big of a deal, not unlike some cpu and gpus overclock better and run cooler than others. Obviously I would prefer the TMSC chip in my phone, but like when I buy cpus I would look for specific batches that are known to oc or run cooler. Dont know how you could determine that with phones though without buying it first.

s8000 is a Samsung chip in the 6s. Not sure if there are others.

I agree with this, as long as the phone is meeting the listed specs 404 issue not found.

20% extra battery life isn't an issue for some people. For those who want to spend a grand on a phone and are okay with inferior hardware I guess it wouldn't be an issue.

N66AP (6s plus) or N71AP (6s) - Samsung chip
N66MAP (6s plus) or N71MAP (6s) - TSMC chip

I was under the impression that the tests posted on MacRumors had different conditions, such as one having a SIM installed and the other without. I would certainly take these results with a grain of salt, and await further analysis from tech sites.

Personally I don't believe the battery life claims at all.

If only there were some sort of tech site out there that could buy phones with both chips and run an apples to apples test. Maybe one founded by some Indian guy who now works for Apple. :hmm:

Actually, it is not.

First, lets ignore the fact that the data provided is questionable, based on a single sample of each phone running a javascript test on iOS software that is rapidly being updated to fix bugs. And I am not sure where the 2.5 hours of extra time is coming from, is someone trying to extrapolate overall performance based on the numbers from this one test? In any event...

So, as I said, lets ignore that and assume the TSMC phones perform better. Guess what, that doesn't matter.

What it comes down to is do all of the phones meet Apple's specs? If they do, TSMC phones exceeding specs would be a bonus for those that happen to get one but it isn't like the Samsung phones are defective products.

Entitlement mentality is everywhere these days. :colbert:

I have the Samsung chip :(

And I have to say this, God forgive me "Chipgate"

Really don't care, if it's real, Apple will and evidently is swapping out phones already for poor battery life. My 6s+ gets pretty decent battery life with the SS chip. I'm sure Apple knew this, and they used the SS chip because they had to for production volumes, and they knew it'd give SS a black eye in their most profitable business at the moment.
