I go through the metal detector and it goes off, I tell the lady I have nothing in my pockets/on me. She tells me don't worry, you have been selected for a random screening.

a few more people go through and another alarm, same thing. Now I realize the other people by me are also waiting. It was about every 5th person...it didn't seem that random. However, I wasn't there a really long time to determine that.

After about 3-5mins I was asked like the others to walk with the TSA person to my stuff now at the end of the carry on scanner (I had cash thrown in mine since I carry it in my pocket and there was an old man hovering over it, fortunately that and my iphone were still there...IMHO the TSA should also have someone watching the persons stuff); they asked for just our shoes which individually they took away into a room.

WTF are they looking for now?

Really wierd.

Do they go the whole way to the floor? I have no idea, have not gone through one yet. My airport is too small for them.

It's a fact that 20% of people are terrorists, therefore if you search every fifth person you can prevent all terrorist attacks.

Maybe, you shouldn't post on things you have no experience about unless you just want to make the most stupid/useless post in every thread.

To educate you, everyone needs to take their shoes off and have them go thru a scanner. So, a blade or anything else would be seen.

I'm guessing b/c the OP got selected for a random search, they're going to search thru everything again, including his shoes.

I was selected for random search once and all they did was go thru my carry-ons while I watched. I'm pretty sure they looked at my shoes but didn't take it anywhere. It only took a couple of minutes and I was good to go.

just shoes. they told us all to start collecting the rest of our stuff while they went away each time.

It's getting bad. I travel a lot (not like those that say they do because they had 3 flights in the last 5 years)...like 40% of my work days have been on a plane to another state for usually just 1-2 days. Longer stays have me flying back each weekend to be home.

One of the other weird things is the searches at the gate...they just walk and pick people and then have them open their carry-on. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me other than making people acceptable of random searches.

Seriously, they searched you already, scanned all your bags you are bringing on the plane and then putting you in a locked down area.

I am thinking this is gaining acceptance to it. For those of us talking about WTF just happened, we were met by others telling us things like "this is keeping us safe!"

What airport was this? That is weird. Probably being just lazy asses. Like I said, when I was selected they brought me to a table, told me not to touch anything and then proceeded to open and go thru my carry ons. And I believe they just looked in my shoes.

IMO the TSA is the single most depressing thing happening in the country today. I know politics has always been emotional and ugly but I thought my fellow Americans had more self respect than to let a $14/hour government goon grope them and their children just to get on an airplane. They say you get he government you deserve but no one deserves this shit. I'm hoping the current lawsuit by former Congressman Barr will help expose the TSA for the joke it is.

it's not weird. Like I said, I and many of my associates are flying all over the place each day.

it's all airports.

The biggest problem we have is our bags getting opening and things missing or caps left off items for the liquids to spill.

TSA cut off my TSA approved lock two times now. The second time (out of the same airport) they cut off the hasps the lock passes through on only ONE zipper. Impossible for that pretty much...also on that trip my second bag was cut wide open and most of my stuff in that bag 'lost'.

My luggage is the best TravelPro makes. It's supposed to withstand all the rigors of travel.

Agree with all of this. It is a commentary on the general stupidity and fear of the American people. It is fvcking depressing that a country under virtually no threat of terrorism continues to pile on arbitrary and ridiculous new shit to harass people at airports. It is security theater and nothing more. Has helped pull the wool off my eyes at least that many if not most Americans talk the talk but when t comes down to it they don't understand their own freedoms or statistics at even a basic level and so allow themselves to be corralled around like sheep in the interest of "their own safety"?

it has gotten ridicules, I don't fly unless I absolutely have to. I rather drive for a day then to put up the security theater.

Like I said, this wasn't my experience when I was selected for a random search. And with my recent flying last weekend, going thru the checkpoints wasn't bad at all. My experiences flying thru Ben Gurion Airport in Israel would make you glad that you don't have to deal with that every time you fly.
