TSA fails 67 out of 70 tests

Hard to believe a federal agency fails at doing their job. But changes have been made to fix this issue. We will anxiously await the results!
 
TSA is there to provide the appearance of security than the real thing. They'll no more stop a terrorist than this lock would keep out someone trying to steal your stuff. The main difference is that the federal government spends billions on this annually to minimal effect whereas you spent $2 on the lock used by a 9 year-old girl on her diary to stop her mom from reading about how she played "seven minutes in heaven" with Andy last week.

LOL. So where's all the hoop and holler for privatizing this service like I always hear when it gets down to inept incompetent gov't employees doing things the private sector could do much better at a cheaper cost?

Oh yeah, now I remember; the commercial airlines and state gov'ts didn't want to pay for protecting its customers from terrorists and dumped all of the added expense on the taxpayer's dime at the federal level, including the exorbitant liability insurance they'd have to pay should terrorists kill or inconvenience any passengers and crew.

Imagine that. Private commercial businesses gets federal gov't security services free of charge, the paying customer doesn't have to pay another surcharge, among a host of other add-on charges, when purchasing a ticket and the gov't gets to take the blame for anything and everything that could go wrong.

You'd think the commercial airlines would bitch and scream every time their angry customers wail on about being hand searched, x-rayed and interminably delayed, but we don't hear a single discouraging word out of them because they all know what the alternative is.

Let's hear it for privatizing this service and see how much the customer actually saves at the gate.

You're not going to hear it from me because from where I'm looking at this situation, having the TSA owned and operated by Uncle Sam is the lesser of two evils.

And besides, let's put the blame where it really should be at: those governments that gave birth to those terrorists and those other governments whose outrageously inept foreign/domestic policies encouraged and created an exponentially greater number of them.

The price for freedom? Don't make me laugh. For the most part it's actually the price of profiteers goading the gov't on to allow them to make blood money where there never was a real national security threat to begin with.

Hey, don't ever accuse me of being a liberal. I'm an independent who tries to see things for what they are. Like most independents in Congress, I'll caucus with the libs, as the alternative is, realistically speaking, unspeakably horrific in nature. 😀

I come from the middle class and I haven't seen squat from the Repubs in Congress as far as sticking up for middle class values while the Dems, like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are constantly championing middle class causes and concerns.

If the Repubs showed as much enthusiasm for supporting the middle class and the poor as they do for the very rich it would be a dream come true for me. 😉

Based on the nonsensical rant you posted and the fact that you believe Democrats care about you any more than Republicans, I'm going to say you are an unhinged liberal, even if you don't admit it.

Airline security used to be private until government decided they needed to get involved. Now we spend a lot more money and are no more secure.

So what's wrong with reverting to private security? Do you think the airline want their $100M airplanes blowing up on a regular basis? No. Sometimes greed IS good. Which Democrats are championing going back to our cheaper just-as-good security?
 
in terms of protecting public safety, it boggles my mind that people are so much more focused on stuff like the Patriot Act instead of the incompetent, dysfunctional TSA.

As far as having the gov't stepping in to take over airport security, well, you're going to have to blame the Bush Admin. and not the Dems for making that happen. If I recall, following 9/11, Cheney/Bush wanted to micromanage our security agencies by having them all fall under the auspices of that newfangled omnipotent clearing house called the Dept. of Homeland Security where it was much easier for the Bush admin. to control all of our security agencies' actions and especially their release of information for public consumption by having a single entity under their direct and personal control. This was part and parcel of the Bush admin's marvelously played neocon propaganda effort to go after Saddam Hussein and "spread democracy" in the middle east.

Like I said before, I side with the Dems because their actions in the legislature, as measly as they are, far outweigh anything the Repubs have done for the middle class and the poor. And let's not forget that it's the Repubs that have, generally speaking, been earnestly blocking anything and everything the Dems have been wanting to pass to help the middle class and the poor.

I also have conservative leanings that I apply to my daily life and hope to infuse my children with, but that all ends where the Constitution and Bill of Rights takes over. I refuse to have my personal conservative views become part of some law that gets imposed on others against their will.

For any person to see that my logic for wanting to side with the Dems is the stuff of an unhinged liberal is, well, delusional or in denial of the simple deductive reasoning I've applied to my beliefs. 😉
 
In addition, the review determined that despite spending $540 million for checked baggage screening equipment and another $11 million for training since a previous review in 2009, the TSA failed to make any noticeable improvements in that time.

My guess is that it is because most people don't travel that often and those that do often get to make a faster transit through the Pre-check lanes
 
They should have done a test of ipad's/ iphones and loads of money in cash. I wonder how much would have been missing after.

This government-imposed fee, called the "September 11th Security Fee," will be used to pay the government's cost for providing Federal civil aviation security services. The TSA was a Republican designed solution (GW Bush) to airport security and specifically bars unionization. What it has become is a vilified and demoralized security force made up almost entirely of people not interested in doing their jobs but instead totally focused on doing what is necessary to keep their jobs and paychecks.

It's like the GOP set about to prove government can't function by intentionally setting up an unworkable system.

It's sad how badly the TSA performs what is a very real need. Bottom line I think is too much design was done by politicians pushing their agendas when we should have had it designed by security professionals. A total makeover is needed.
