So, I cannot hook my xbox directly into the ehternet port here at school and connect to Live, it just refuses. Also, the university has a policy against using routers/splitters/etc. in your room. Is there someway to get around these problems, or anyone else that's had this problem (I'm at IU Bloomington)? Any suggestions are appreciated...Halo 2 is calling!

thanks guys

General concensus around here is that if you re not smart enough to do it by yourself then you shouldn't be doing it.

Use a router anyway? Your school might be authorizing connections based on the MAC address of your NIC, so you can use a router to clone the MAC address and plug in whatever you want.

The correct answer is to contact your network department and ask how to connect your xbox. If they tell you that you can't, then it is their network, and you're stuck.

Your only recourse at that point is to appeal their decision in writing, with sufficient justifications as to why xboxes should be allowed.

I just hooked up a router in my dorm room. We weren't supposed to either but I had it there for two years and never got in any trouble for it.

yah. I changed the mac address on my xbox and it let me on. I'll probably just bring a router with me from home for a more permanent fix. Thanks guys.
