trying to understand HD

Your only problem with going with a monitor over a tv is you lack the standard HDTV inputs, it seems like there should be an adapter that should work, though i've never looked into it. Also you have no built in tuner.
 
Yeah, you'd need to end up buying a tuner card for your PC, and then you'd have to consider the resolution. 20-22" wide screen monitors are going to have to scale down 1080i/p sources (as they run native resolutions of 1680 x 1050, not 1920x1080 for TV, although PC monitors that could do it would be 1920x1200 or greater) Granted the picture is still going to look amazing, and then there's the fact that it'd be more than enough for 720p signals which many stations broadcast in as opposed to 1080i.
