I'm trying to stock up on things now so I am not running around like mad next month. What kind of stuff do I need? This is for a older house, so wood working tools will be a necessity.

I know I will need a:

Lawn mower
Weed wacker
Chain saw
Oxy-Acetylene torch

But I am kind of at a loss as to what else. I have lots of hand tools and air tools, but not much else. We have wandered around Home Depot and I was like a kid in a candy store but I need to know essentials, first.

Sure I should! I always need to get stuck bolts off, and now I'll have a place to keep a tank, other than in my apt.

Oh and gloves. Get one good set per person and then a 10-pack of those cheapie tan/gray cloth ones with the black rubber dots on them -- those are good for nasty work where you want to chuck the gloves afterwards (you probably won't want to keep your good gloves if you have septic tank issues, for example).

Thank you, I never even thought of a shovel. I can pick up those cheapies at Sam's Club.

There are on vehicles though, specifically rusty ones on Jeeps. Like I said, I never wanted to store it in the closet of my bedroom, now I don't have to. :p

Cordless drill
paint brushes
shevles
hoses
sprinklers
generator
wire cutters
chain
pantyhose
leather straps
big plastic sheets
latex gloves
lubrication (oil or WD40 type stuff)

I saw 125ft of rubber hose (I hate plastic hoses!) for $20 at Sams Club.

I've owned this house since 1982, and I still don't own a weed wacker, chain saw or oxy-acetylene torch. If you landscape right, you won't need the weedwacker. I simple bow saw will cut whatever branches you have to remove. If my car needs an oxy-acetylene torch to fix it, I'll turn it over to a trusted mechanic.

Buy the stuff as you need it, and don't buy cheap crap. Buy Craftsman garden tools, which WILL break, but will be replaced free. Buy the lifetime guaranteed garden hose there as well. Buy a digital multimeter with auto shut off. Standard hand tools. A decent 3/8" corded or cordless drill and bits. Plastic anchors & screws to fit. You'll need those a lot!

The way the property is set, I'll need a weed wacker. There is a large stream in back and I won't be able to drive the mower in there :p. I have the hand tools, for the most part. I dont have some odd stuff, though.

Impact Driver - for driving and removing screws/nuts
Torpedo level - for leveling small stuff
Larger level - for leveling larger stuff

It really depends on what you need I guess. If you are remodeling then I would say buy a Sliding Compound Miter Saw and a Finish Nailer. Of course with the nailer you need a portable air compressor

If you need to paint a lot I would probably get one of those wagner power painters, drop cloths, painting tape, brushes....

If you are looking at stuff just to have on hand like fuses, O-rings, or furnace filters - it depends on what appliances you have.

So I guess my answer is that it depends

What would it look like if you just left it alone? Do you really think it needs your attention? I've got a cheap mower to handle "rough terrain", that I don't want my good mower plowing through. I guess that's what I use instead of a weed wacker, but I don't do any frilly flower beds or crap like that.

Unless you're going to remodel right away, just get the yard tools for now.

Pay attention to the sales & pick up the other stuff as you need it.
