Trying to share a dial up connection.

I don't have access to high speed in my area. I am using netzero on my desktop.
I want to use my desktop, connected to my router (Belkin G wireless router) as a switch or gateway to enable file sharing and internet use on my other laptops.
I had this setup awhile back, and now I can't get it to work. I know it has something to do with the gateway address and IP's
There was a link that I cannot find that showed a step by step guide for my application.
I have wireless built into my laptops, and I can get the file sharing to work somewhat, but the internet is dead on everything except the desktop with the phone line connected to it. I am not using an external modem.

I have searched, and most threads say it can't be done, but I have had it working with this configuration before.

Any help?
I'm looking for just the simple steps to connect everything correctly and get the settings correct.

Thanks!

I used to do something similar with an Xbox and dial up. I would set the computer up for internet sharing and hook the Xbox up to the PC's ethernet port. Then dial in to the dial-up connection. (man dialing in? old dark days 😛) I would assume you could set the router up using something similar, maybe setting the router up in access point mode?

You need to bridge the dialup and your ethernet NIC and then enable ICS on the computer. Also, on your router you'll need to change the settings so that either the DHCP is turned off or that the gateway address it's assigning is that of your computer and NOT the router. Right now I'd say it's assigning the other computer's it's own address and that's why internet isn't working since it's not going through the router but through your computer. Another option is to buy a 2nd NIC for your computer and hook it up to the WAN port of your router and then bridge the dialup modem and that new NIC but then it becomes even more complicated.

Your not in any area served by cable, dsl or even something like 3g mobile internet (internet via cellular?) If your area is in a sprint 3g area, PM me and I'll send you some info on a good priced evdo wireless connection via sprint
