TV has: Audio - Left/Right RCA, Optical Digital audio output
Computer has - Coax, Optical, 6 channel direct
DVD player has - Digital Coax, left/right RCA
Z-680 has - Optical, Coax, 6 channel direct.

What is the best way to set this up? I was thinking Component Audio/Video from the DVD player to the TV, Optical from the TV to the z-680. Will everything communicate? I was going to use the coax to connect the z-680 to the computer, since that is what the TV does NOT have, but the computer DOES. This way I would not need any splitters.

Or does the DVD player have to communicate directly with the z-680? I was assuming the link between the TV and the z-680 would work since then the TV is connected to the DVD player through the component already. Otherwise, I would have to hook up the DVD player through the Coax since that is all that it has, and then I guess get an optical splitter??? Anyone know how I should do this?

Also, the TV does have HDMI, but that would mean a new DVD player....which is roughly $50 more than just buying cables, but I guess I would have upconversion...

Computer - use 6 channel direct
DVD - use digital coax
TV - use digital optical (I have not tried to run digial audio out of a TV before, does that only work with an internal digital tuner or something? - if there are issues, you could run the analog TV audio through the line-in of the soundcard and you wouldn't need to run any splitters then)

EDIT: oh, what do you use your computer for? I see the AV-710 in there which is a good card for stereo analog, but not really multichannel analog. Lots of gaming involved?... not that one type of connection from that card will really solve any problems associated with that.

The problem with using the 6-channel direct with the computer is I am going to re-arrange my room so the two aren't that close together and I can get longer cables in all the other varieties. Looking a monoprice (the cable site I was recommended that has almost everything) I do not see the type of cable that comes with the z-680 (the one with the yellow, green, and black)

The tv says it has dolby digital 5.1 built in or something along with the internal HDTV tuner

Well you should definately be using the digital connection then.

Does it have a digial coaxial or digital optical input on the TV in addition to the output?

Three 3.5mm stereo M/M cables will work for hooking up 6 channel from the computer to the speakers.
