Trying to Set up a wireless Access Point

I am trying to do this for my neighbor, but I could not get it to work so i brought his AP over to try it at my house. It is an Encore ENHWI-N3 http://www.encore-usa.com/us/product/ENHWI-N3.

Here is the manual
http://www.encore-usa.com/us/sites/default/files/product_documents/ENHWI-N3_UM.pdf

I have a comcast modem with IP of 10.0.0.1 . I factory resetted the encore, hooked it up to my PC / comcast modem via LAN Ports. I set the encore IP to 10.0.0.20, disabled the DHCP server. I then changed the SSID / password to match that of the comcast modem/router. I also disabled the NAT.

What I tried to do was to move the Encore to a different room and hook it up to my PS3 via LAN ports. My PS3 is not obtaining an IP address. So then I looked at the manual and tried to use the WDS mode. Here is what the manual says about that.
"Wireless Distribution System. The WDS is a way of interconnecting wireless routers and allow an extended wireless network coverage using multiple wireless routers without the use of a wired backbone. Each WDS AP requires the same channel and encryption type to work."

If my comcast modem is set to channel 1 does that mean the Encore wireless has to be set to channel 1 as well? I was also confused about the MAC address screen that came up.

It says "Please enter the MAC address(es) of the neighboring APs
that participates in the WDS. A maximum of 4 devices are
allowed."

Do I enter the MAC address of the WiFi LAN port on the comcast modem, or a MAC of something else?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, they should be using the same channel.

I believe in the AP you would enter the MAC address of the modem. The modem's WIFI NIC. Or as you describe it the WIFI LAN port.

WDS may not work with the AP and the modem since they are not from the same manufacture. Not sure if you have to disable DHCP and NAT and change static IPs.

Were you trying to get bridging mode to work first and then trying WDS? Actually rereading what you said it sounds like you were. You may have connected to the wrong ports or the modem isn't in bridge mode.

If all the neighbor wants is WIFI then WDS isn't what you want. You just plug the modem's LAN connection into the WAN port of the router and turn on WIFI in the router. Be sure to use WPA2 AES encryption and I would set up a hex key of 64 digits to take full advantage of AES 256. Use this to create a key. Copy paste it to the WIFI connection software on the computer using a USB stick. Once the key is in the WIFI connection software it will automatically use it so you don't have to type in a large key every time you connect.

I think I figured it out finally. All I had to do was set the encore in repeater mode. I had to connect it to PC and comcast router/modem set it to repeater, then do a site survey and connect it to my SSID.
