You can keep 3DS Max where it is currently installed. Just configure the program to put the temp folder on the ram drive. Are you using the GPU rendering feature of Vray?

No, I never heard of a GPU rendering feature, there seems to be a lack of tutorials on it also. Will this speed up rendering?

Alright, the GPU feature doesn't seem to work, it looks like it only opperates with Nvidia, I could be wrong. Whenever I use the function I just get a black screen.

Also, I got the RAM disk you linked. I can't figure out how to work it or how to set any of the functions.

I think you need to do a bit of research of the product you use for rendering...As already said in this thread, it appears the program doesnt use more than x86 memory addressing and speed isnt improved on the x64 version, which is why you maybe able to use the RAM disk as the the scratch area to improve data access for the program and perhaps check out GPU acceleration of the product...this may help in the speed of the rendering also!

I tried the RAM drive people were suggesting, and got no improvement. I have a concern on weather the RAM Drive is safe, no one has access to my stuff once I used it, right?

You should check the forums for 3DS Max and Vray to see how to setup OpenCL GPU rendering.

You need the open cl driver installed. The new 11.5 drivers should install it automatically.
Then open the kernel analyzer and it just works. Set it to Auto compile.

There is only one thing I can find to open in the OpenCL Device manager and it's called called CYpress, and it doesn't work. Am I missing something?

I think you need to read up a bit more on3dsmax and vray and maybe you should ask around on the maxforums.

I do that also. I don't just use one forum, I use like 5. I also asked this stuff on Tom's Hardware.

install a software named CPUZ, it freeware. In that there are tbas to check your processor performance and how much RAM is getting detected in your system. Check the Memory tab. It will tell you how much RAM is actually being used and what is your FSB:DRAM ratio. Ideally FSB:DRAM ratio should be as close to 1:1 as possible. If it is close to 1:1 like 4:5 then no need to do anything. If it is something like 3:10 then you might have to look at decreasing RAM timings as well as increasing voltage of DRAM in BIOS. Be careful to step down 1 point at a time unless you will overheat your RAM. Goal is to bring FSB:DRAM ratio close to 1:1

I think you're onto to something. Here is an example of when and where I would need 18GBs of RAM. http://www.evermotion.org/modelshop/show_product/the-secret-fx-training-dvd/6360/0/0/ It also requests that I have 8 cores to go with it. Is it possible to put my 18 GBs of RAM to use by networking my 2 other PCs together with this one to run a render farm?

What you need to speed up rendering with Max (and almost all other 3D apps.) is more CPU power. Network rendering is one way to achieve it. Even old crappie PC's can chip in for all they are worth and give you meaningful improvement.
