From a Windows machine with Office 2000 I am trying to send a document in Word2K format to an iMac.

Apparently they cannot open it.

Any idea idea what format I can send it in so they can read it and not loose too much formatting?

Thanks!

If you're using Office 2k, they'll need Office 2001 or X to open the documents. Office 98 may have some problems.

Also, sometimes you cannot double-click to open a PC file on a Mac. You have to open the application and then from the file menu, open the document. This has to do with the way Macs and PCs recognise files.

It is a one year old iMac special edition or something and she probably has not upgraded any software.

So, BDawg, if I sent the document in RTF as Viper suggested from Office 2000 on a PC, my only hope is
if she has Office 2001 or better to be able to open the document?

I wonder what the default Word-like apps are pre-installed on an iMac? Do they usually come with Office?

Thanks!

RTF should be completely independant of the version of Office they're running.

Word for Windows 3.1 could read & write RTF.

I belive the iMacs came with Appleworks a sort of Microsoft Works equivilent. Also, I belive SimpleText (the MacOS notepad) will read RTF.

Otherwise, like Viper said, any version of Word will open RTF.
