Trying to sell a laptop question..

My wife has a Sony VAIO laptop that is maybe 5 years old that we'd like to sell. Only problem is we cant seem to find any of the original discs that came with it. Like recovery etc.

If we wanted to sell this on craiglist or whatever what would be the best way to get this back to a like new install of windows? I believe its Vista that is on there.

Or would i just have to format the HD and let the new buyer worry about their own windows copy?

Thanks,

P.S. Hope this is in the right forum section.

If there is a restoration partition on the hard drive than that is all you need. That may not be the case though. Sony typicly has a recovery DVD creator. Look in the start menu for VAIO Recovery Center.

Sony offers this video tutorial on How to Perform a C:\ Drive Recovery using the Recovery Wizard located in Control Panel. No CD's required, recovery partition remains intact, system is restored as factory original and ready for a new owner.

The alternative, depending on the model of Sony Vaio, is to tap either the F10, F11, F12 or the ESC key, during boot, to access the factory restore option.
