Trying to run Dual Screen

I'm trying to run dual screen setup but by having the TV as the main monitor and the 27" on the side ( on the desk ). The TV is hooked via VGA and trying to run the monitor from HDMI. Both products are samsung 55" and 27". The HDMI is not allowing the 27" to turn on only remain standby, advice?

I have an amd card, and it or windows, I am not sure which, sets the HDMI output to be monitor one, and there is no way to change it. Incredibly stupid IMO

Can't you just switch the cables physically? Hook the TV up with HDMI and the monitor with vga?

What AMD card do you have? I take it has a VGA and HDMI output. Does your card support dual displays?

Does the HDMI work on your 55" TV? So can you verify that the HDMI works on each display by itself?

Do you have Catalyst drivers installed or are you just letting windows manage your card?
