My mother in laws PC just went on the blink, but I think its her hard drive. Its about a 5yr old compaq. I opened it up thinking it would have a 3 1/2 hard drive, but its one of the old 5 1/2 (or whatever) ones...about the size of a small book. Its a quantum TX. Is it possible to purchace these drives anywhere? This PC is real small and hard to work in! I told her its time to get a new PC, but she is cheap! Any ideas??

thanks!!

You are seeing a Quantum Bigfoot. What an awful drive. Did you check e-bay? You may be able to find a used one. Don't know if this will work, but perhaps a cheap USB PCI card and an external hard drive might solve the problem. She will need at least Win98SE and whether the BIOS would support booting from an external drive is anyone's guess.

thanks for the help!!! Will there be other "issues" if I get a 3 1/2 drive. I know the 5 1/4 is an ATA drive. Will I need to update anything else with an 3 1/2 drive??

thanks agian !!

No, they use the same technology, same cables...

But if you buy too big of a hard drive, the PC might not support it. Just something to look out for.
