Trying to remote from Oregon to Hawaii with VPN to access network

So we have a office in Oregon and the main office in Hawaii i have a user using VPN to access all the files on the network here in Hawaii we have two computers here she can remote to but at times they are locked or they wont let her connect other times its really slow. i have checked the power settings on the pc
to make sure its not hybernating or going into standby. and every time i try to remote it works fine.. are there any known issues with remoting that far away or is it just a the vpn connection thats taking so long or are thier any other alternative ways for her to connect. its been a real big problem almost to the point where i might need to send a IT guy out there to see if her connection sucks or something
 
reduce mtu settings. run a ping to see if there is packet loss on the transport.

probably a combo of both - this is the vpn/firewall admin's daily problems.
