hello,

i would like to play my old games (games that I played on my windows 95 system) but i'm having an awful lot of trouble. i have heard that you can right click on the main exe file and change the compatibility options to: "run this program in compatibility mode for..." but that hasn't worked.

the legitimate games i'm trying to play are: screamer 2 and mechwarrior mercenaries, if that helps any.

i am using windows xp home edition, sp2 installed.

thanks a lot.

DOSBox is a DOS emulator for windows. It emulates a DOS environ to allow you to run DOS apps.

Mewchwarrior 2 Mercenaries was fun but if you want to recapture the glory, Id suggest picking up Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries (dont know it its a standalone or not though). Good game :)

You could set the MW2 Mercs .exe file to run in Windows 95 compatibilty mode through Win XP but in my experience, it doesnt work that often.

I started playing some old DOS games recently as well! I just dug through our pile at work and found a couple old systems to use. 75mhz and 233mhz Pentium systems. :)

There is also a utility called moslo that helps with running the super duper old games that run too fast on newer processors. link

hey mscoder,

i tried dosbox with screamer 2 and it didn't work. here's what i did: 1. i mounted the drive where the screamer directory was stored. then i mounted the cdrom cuz the game needs the cd. i'll type the exe file to start. but then, the dosbox window does not leave dos. it just stays there but the cdrom starts playing the music from the game. is it my vid card? i have a 5200 geforce.

thanks.
