trying to overclock a 566

i'm a newbie at the overclocking game, and i need some advice.
i put a celeron 566 (66) into an abit vh6 mobo, running at the
default of 1.5volts. the video card is a voodoo5 5500. i have
2 sticks of 128 (133mhz)ram. i tried overclocking by bumping the cpu to 850(100) and the voltage to 1.7volts (max supported on the board). it booted just fine, but it consistently locked up on video intensive apps like midtown madness 2. the video problem went away when i went back down to 566(66).

anyone have any helpful suggestions? thanks.

Go here: www.hardocp.com/articles/intel_stuff/bumpvoltage.html
Exept use a rear window defrost repair kit like I did. This will default your initial voltage to higher setting and allow you to go up from there.
However, i'm not sure this will work for your application. The problem you describe is one that I think would be cleared up with more voltage.:)

what h/sink are you using on that cpu? you'll need a better one than the standard Intel one for your proposed o/clock.

as killrose said, the hardocp trick work well

i tried on my last system, i have another way to connect the pins instead soldering

if you use soldering, the warranty will be voided. try to use a thin wire to wrap those pins.

trust me, it works

i can get my c2 566 to 875 only

try your luck

I'm not familiar with the VH6, but does the old "set default voltage to 1.7v and then re-flash the BIOS" trick work like it does with older Abit BX boards? This seems a lot easier and more flexible than hard wiring.

Just curious...
