Got a new pc: GA965-DS3,e6400,Mushkin EM2 (2-512) DDR2 800mhz,X1900XT,Ultra 600w.
Want to oc my cpu to 2.5-2.8 hopefully with stock voltage.
Have the F6 bios.
Right now everything is at optimized default.
CPUZ voltage reads 1.168v but fluctuates every 15-20 secs to 1.200 and 1.328,but always comes back to 1.168. The Multiplier is 8x and the bus speed is 266.7mhz.
The CPUZ memory screen has a frequency of 400.0 mhz and fsb-ram ratio of 2:3.

The only thing I tried was to boost the fsb at 5mhz increments. Got up to 10 when I tried the third 5mhz. the pc would reboot.

Would appreciate some help. Thanks

well after u rach that point u should turn the core voltage up to the next option and see if the system is completely stable.
then raise FSb and check for stability. If unstable raise voltage. After a certain FSB speed u might have to raise chipset voltage as well.

Thanks will try. I am wondering about the memory . I read the ratio should be 1:1.

yeah, drop your memory multi down to 1:1 (i believe in BIOS settings it is listed as 2.0), because that will give you a lot more OCing room. That way you can hit 400MHz FSB (3.2GHz CPU) without having to OC your memory. I have yet to see an e6400 that can't hit 3GHz with close to default voltage, and with a little extra vcore you should be able to hit at least 3.2GHz without much fuss.

Also, what voltage are you running for your memory? You might wanna bump it up to 2.0-2.1V to get a little extra speed out of it. I've never used Mushkin, but my Corsair XMS DDR2-800 runs fine at DDR2-1020 after i give it 2.1V.

For your vcore, i think that's the Intel speedstep kicking in. 1.325V is the default load vcore, and i think 1.165V is the power saving idle voltage. Personally i turn it off in BIOS, since i think it's likely that all that voltage switching is likely to cause a crash in an overclocked chip.

Thanks a ton. Will try out your advice. Will get back a little later with results.

Thanks gobucks it went very well. Dropiing the multi down to 1:1 was the key. Easily upped the fsb to 350 and got 2.8Ghz without any problem. Did not change anything else.Very happy with the results,(did change cpu vcore from auto to 1.325.)

Temp of cpu went up a few degrees 36C to 40C.

I have one, wanna see?

Or help me figure out why?

Check it.
