Hello

As the title says im trying to OC my new 7870 but i have a feeling it isnt working. Ive been raising my core clock with 5mhz each time i run heaven dx11 benchmark. The standard clockspeed of this card is 1050mhz. Ive raised the clockspeed up to 1130mhz but i dont see any difference in frames that is shown in heaven dx11. Shouldn't 80mhz give atleast give an extra frame or maybe 2? I tried CCC and msi afterburner but the results are the same. I hope someone can help! Tia

Well actually raising the clock speed 10% , would ideally raise your fps by 10%.
Are you doing the memory and core at the same time ?
If you are, don't. Just focus on core.
Also you have to go in to CCC and raise power tune to +20%.
What that does is stop possible throttling by the driver, from you raising the core clock. Which results in you getting the same final fps. Because if stock you are drawing xxx watts, without raising powertune and raising clocks, (which uses more power) the driver will throttle the clock speed to keep the wattage at a set TDP.

I'm not the best guy to answer your question, but I'll reply because I don't agree with the previous reply.
Edit: When I started this reply, there was only a reply from 'T Yamamoto'.

I'd like to hear about the rest of your system. I'd think that if you are CPU limited, OC'ing your card might not show a significant difference. Don't forget to include what resolution you are running. Lastly, please include your results. It'll be easier for someone to explain what could be wrong when they have a fuller picture of what is going on.

Also, please realize that there are two clockspeeds to your card. One is for the core and the other for the memory. Perhaps you are overclocking your memory and not the core? It's possible that you won't see any significant gains on memory increases (again, depending on other hardware and what you are doing).

Nah im sure im clocking the core. I went from 1050mhz to 1300mhz tonight. 1050mhz gives 5469 points in 3dmark and 1300mhz gives a score of 5485. Ive raised the clockspeed 150mhz and only gain 16 points in 3dmark. Is that normal or...?

Here are my specs :

processor : AMD Phenom x4 945 running stock 3.0ghz
memory : 4gb 1333
motherboard : asus M4A78LT-M
videocard : sapphire 7870 2gb OC edition
powersupply : corsair vx450w

Could the processor be the problem?

Im done for tonight. Tomorrow im going to continue raising the core clock. And see how far i can push it but i honestly dont really see the point couse i dont notice any difference in performance. Thanks for the help guys!

Did you follow Notty22's suggestions?

I think you are doing something wrong. I haven't heard of a 7870 going to 1.3Ghz before. The highest Anandtech got was 1.2Ghz on two different cards. I doubt you got to 1.3Ghz.

Start by following Notty22's suggestions. Then post back with your results.

It turned out that the driver or something in ccc wasnt working properly. Instead of downloading the driver from the official amd site i used the installation cd. My frames are finally shooting up
