1) computer 1 laptop win 2000 pro
2) computer 2 desktop win xp home
3) netgear mr814 router
4) usb printer hooked to computer 2

I hooked the printer to computer 2 and right clicked on the printer icon in control panel and ran the wizard to share the printer. I have no idea if I did it right. What was bizarre was that for computer 1 I lost my internet connection. It turns out that device manager showed that ethernet controller was not not working. Long story short, I took computer 1 (laptop) out of its Advanced replicator port (APR) hooked up the xircom ethernet card and disconnected the laptop from the router and connected straight to the internet. Then when I put it back in the APR and back to the router it worked there too.

I went to computer 1 and right clicked the printer icon and set it up for sharing but I still can not print off of printer 1.

I need detailed instructions as to how to make this work.

Thanks

dont you just goto printers, right click the printer to share, then goto sharing and enable sharing..

when you goto "my network places" and click on the computer that the printer is physically connected to, double-click the shared printer and it should install the drivers and be able to use the shared printer.

You don't want to install the printer drivers on computer 1 then share it. When you go to add a printer on computer 1 (using the "Add a printer" shortcut), the first question asked is whether or not the printer is attached to this computer or on the network. Select the network option and you will be asked to select a network printer. There should be a browse button to open up the network connection to computer 2 and select the printer, at which point Windows will download the appropriate drivers from computer 2 and all should be well.

You might want to get file sharing up and running between the computers first as that can be a little easier to diagnose. If file sharing is working then sharing a printer should be pretty straight forward.
