I just recently bought a new Maxtor SATA/150 drive. I then did a clean install of windows XP onto this drive. Later I formatted the previous seagate IDE drive and placed it into the system. Everything runs fine for a while then I get a message there was an error loading the operating system. If I turn off the computer and unplug the ide drive and boot up the computer finds the correct drive and boots up. Then power down and reconnect the ide drive and the system runs fine for a time. Then I got the same error message a month later. The rest of the system:
mobo: DFI lan party nf4 ultra
cpu: AMD 3000
Video card: ATI x700 pro.
ps: enermax 400W

Thanks for the help

I just went into the bios and switched the order in which the hard drives should boot and that fixed the current problem. I did not see where to set the priority of the hard drives in the bios though.

I guess if you already did the boot order then it should fix the problem. Make sure the option, "Boot from other devices. . ." is also enabled.
