Update: I extracted the iso to my hard drive, and used Nero to burn a bootable dvd, just added those extracted files to that bootable DVD project and burned it. Booted the Dell with that. It seems to starts booting from that disc and loading drivers, then it errors out. I stepped through the bootup using F8, and it errors out when it tries to load some FAT32 related program. Is this because the hard drives are running on SATA raid? Is it because my previous attempt at installing created and formated an NTFS partition?
Here's the error message :
I got the Dell sc420 with a cd rom drive. Installed my older Pioneer 1060s drive into the Dell.
Burned Windows 2003 Server from an ISO image that came with my MSDN subscription, to a blank DVD -R disc using burncdcc.
The Dell will boot off a CD that came with it, into OpenManage Server Assistant, which is supposed to help me install an OS.
When I get to the process which asks me to put in the Windows Server 2003 disc, it spits the disc back out and says it's invalid (forget the exact message).
I try to bypass the OpenManage Server Assistant by booting up with the burned W2K3 dvd in the drive, but it simply wont boot from that disc. I verified that dvd is bootable on my main machine (where I'm typing from).
Is it an issue that the disc is burned? My main machine's dvd drive is the one that burned that disc, could that explain why it was able to boot from the dvd? The dell will boot from the dell dvd but not the burned one. THis is really annoying. What can I do?
UPDATE: The OpenManage Server Assistant is prompting when it's at 27% "Copy operating system: Insert "Microsoft Windows Server 2003 CD". Does this OpenManage thing only expect a CD, not DVD? Or does it expect one from dell? Should I bother trying to put the dvd burner from my main machine into the dell, just to try to get the OS installed?
Here's the error message :
The system memory manager (EMM386.EXE) has detected an error caused by a fault in one of the device drivers or programs loaded in the system.
Du to this fault the system is probably in an unstable state, and you are therefore recommended to reboot the computer immediately. If the problem persists, then try to isolate which program is at fault (if you have loaded several, then load them one at a time until the fault appears), then contact the technical support department for that program.
Advanced technical information:
Exception 6 (Invalid Opcode).
