ive been trying to install windows 2000 Pro on a asus mobo/amd athlon xp 2600/with 512 mb mem/80 gb hd, but after i format the drive and windows copys its files, i get this message every time

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

i did a search on this, and most ppl think hardwear failure or incapadible.
i just got the mobo/cpu/ram/and hard drive from someone in here, the only i added was case/dvd drive/and agp video card. any ideas?

Just about every time I got that error message when installing Win2K it either was a memory problem or an overclocked processor that wasn't stable enough to install Windows.

If you could hit Quote and edit this template with your detailed info, as far as you know it, that would probably help people get insight on the problem or else know what else to ask next.

Sounds like a problem with the RAM. Try switching the DIMM with another and see if it works. Also you might want to check the timings for RAM in the bios. Maybe the timings are too agressive for the RAM to handle properly. Try setting them to the slowest possible settings (highest numbers).

I had this problem with an abit board over the summer, and i changed every part out of the system (did the ram alone 4 times....). Turned out it was a bad processor. Thermal paste had gotten under one of the chips on top of the die (on an athlon xp 2700) and the thing was ruined. Lesson learned: don't put too much thermal grease on your die...

Try disconnecting all unnecessary hardware - keep cpu/ram/vga/1 HDD/ 1 CD. disable all onboard peripherals etc etc

T@HIS is from MSOFT:

If the message appears during an installation of Windows 2000, make sure that the computer and all installed peripherals are listed on the Microsoft Windows 2000 Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)
