Trying to install SATA driver using USB floppy drive.

A while back I posted a question on how to go about installing windows XP after my floppy drive stopped working (I tried several different drives) One poster told me that all I needed was a usb floppy drive, so I put this on hold until I got a hold of one.

Now that I have one, I'm trying to figure out how to use it. When I hit F6 to install, it tells me to put the storage media into drive (A: ) when my usb drive is labeled as drive (B: ). There is no floppy drive (A: ) shown that's taking its spot and I can't rename any floppy drive with Administrative tools either (shown in pic). I would appreciate any replies.

Thanks for posting. Well, I got this drive from a friend who I'm pretty sure bought and used it for the very same reason (installing sata driver). I'm going to try and get in touch with him just to make sure.

Edit: Nice! thanks for that link. I'll definitely try that!

Tried a different data cable on an internal drive?

Have a psu tester with a floppy power test connector?

I have no idea if Windows setup overrides DOS commands if you boot to DOS then run the setup file from the optical drive, but DOS has a swap floppy drive letter command. Whether it sees a usb drive is another question. Nero can easily make a bootable Win 98 cd that appears as the "A" drive when you boot. If you have 2 optical drives, boot from the cd you make (include the drivers you need on it), then run setup on the other drive with a DOS command....maybe it will still see the other optical drive as "A"? Have no real idea if any of this would work, but it is the crazy kind of stuff I might try if I had your problem.
