Hi,
I just installed a new Maxtor hdd with a ATA controller card and I'm having a few problems.
First of all, I'm pretty sure that I set the BIOS correctly. I set the main bootup drive to scsi because I have my one and only hdd hooked up to the controller card and I was told that I should set it to scsi because the card is set up like a scsi.
I think everything is fine this way because I have cd rom support and the cd rom is hooked up to the same controller card. I have nothing on my mobo IDE channels at all.
My problem is that for some reason Windows was not recognizing the drive, so I tried fdisking it. I probably shouldn't have done this because I know about as much about fdisking a drive as I do about setting the BIOS.
When I used fdisk I remember setting up a DOS partition and set it up for the whole drive. My problem is that now my machine boots up to a certain point and then says "Operating system not installed" or something like that. When the computer gets to that point, I don't know how to get out of it. I'm suspecting that I should remove that DOS partition, but I'm not sure how to get back into fdisk without a DOS prompt.
Can anyone help me out here? PM if possible? If not, could you give me a few links that might be helpful in my situation. I really shouldn't be messing with the BIOS or using the fdisk command because I really don't know what I'm doing. I guess I have to learn sometime though. 😉
Thanks so much,
Sal
