Hello all,

I am a CS student trying to fumble my way around a Fedora 2 install! I own an X1050, and I started doing a Fedora 2 install last night. I set up a WinXP partition of type NTFS, and left some empty space for Fedora.

While doing the Fedora install, I created a partition of type vfat for sharing files between XP and Fedora (not sure if this will work or not, but I'm trying!). Then I created a partition of type ext3 for Fedora (about 9 GB allocated). I followed the instructions off of RH's site that recommended making a swap partition that is twice the size of your RAM...did that. Then I also made a parition of 100 MB for /boot.

I set up the 9GB partition to be the root partition.

It didn't recognize the monitor, so I set it up as a generic LCD with my desired resolution.

It saw the mouse as a generic 3-button mouse (I'm using a Logitech wireless mouse).

I got through the boot loader...Windows or Linux....set up Windows as default.

Then, I set up a firewall when prompted...

I set up the admin name/password...

Then, it says it's installing Fedora and starts to do it's thing. After a few minutes though, I get an error stating that it cannot install the OS...here's the error:

"There was an error installing dev-3.3.13-1. This can indicate media failure, lack of disk space, and/or hardware problems. This is a fatal error, and your install will be aborted. Pleace verify your media and try your install again."

Before installing, I ran the "check your media" utility, and all 4 of my CD's passed. I ran the utility AGAIN after receiving this message, and they passed.

I am using a Logitech wireless mouse, and a D-Link wireless network adaptor. Other than that, nothing out of the ordinary.

Does anyone have any ideas about this? I have used RH before, but I am a complete beginner when it comes to doing the install myself. I have searched around online and read through many of the posts on this forum and have not found much

Thanks much!!!

Hi,

I have found the fedora discs to be fussy with regard to the drive they're installed with. For instance, some old pioneer slot load DVD ROMs I have display your problem. They just stop reading with that error. It's not always the same file, but it does useually take a few minutes to appear.

My only suggestion is to find an external drive to install from or connect via ethernet to a server and use a net install.

Good luck,

Andy
