Trying to get statistics on operating systems....

I'm trying to find articules and statistics (links) on which operating system is generally better for web hosting and system administration services. Administration services such as cvs, samba, etc.

These are the following two operating systems being considered.

FreeBSD 6.0 and Fedora Core 4 (Linux).

Would anyone be able to help out?

I would choose FC (well, Debian if given that choice but FC is the lesser of the two evils you mentioned) just for the package management. BSD ports aren't supported as well as Linux packages in most distributions.

I have not used either for a server. I usually go with debian for servers. If its just php/appache/other common stuff you should have no problem with bsd. I've used a NetBSD server that worked just fine.
