rental ins? as in renters insurance? Renters insurance protects your goods in case of accident, like home insurance. You should have it no matter what. My new(fairly nice) apt is only $160 a year.

Not sure how rental insurance links into Dish network, but I pay 120/year through Nationwide for 75k/year coverage on my renter insurance

The renters insurance is probably required by Dish Network because you no longer buy the equipment from them, you "rent" it, and they will require you to have insurance to protect their property.

As for prices, I am getting my Dish Network installed tomorrow. They are still running a special where the install is free if you agree to a 1 year contract with them. For 1 TV I think the cheapest plan is around $35 per month, maybe a little less. Then you add $5 per TV, and then more for movie channels, local channels and such. I will be paying around $76 for 3 TVs, the Top 100 channel package, HBO, Showtime, Starz, and my local channels, which is still less than what I was paying for Digital cable on 1 TV for the same set of channels.

How do you go about getting Renters Insurance?
Any insurance agent can write up a Renters Insurance agreement. If you go through the agent that holds your car insurance you can usually get a multi-policy discount.

The cheapest plan is around $20 a month. That has most of the channels I need. I have to go with the $35 a month plan because my kids have to have their channels. If you live close to a metropolitan area you don't really have to pay for local channels. Its very easy to switch from sat to antenna. I pay about $40 + change since I have to pay for the local channels since I live in the sticks.

check the channel line up here

eidt: i can't see where directv has the el cheapo package, but dish network still has it for $22.link
