Trying to get PCMCIA sockets to recognise pc cards

Hi.. I have a Solo 9300 Laptop with windows xp.. I have just purchased an anypoint wireless lan kit for use with desktop and laptop. Im having big problems trying to get the wireless lan card to be recognised in the laptop PCMCIA slots. Basically nothing happens!!!. I have checked in the devices menu and it shows... PCMCIA adapters.. and then it says.. Texas Instruments 1450 pci to cardbus. (twice so I guess the sockets are working) image here...PICCIE ... but why isit when I put a pc card in the slot nothing happens.. do I have to configure something else in windows xp to get them to recognise the card??? or do i need some kind of card wizard that needs to be installed before I can use the PCMCIA sockets???
I have tried installing a pcmcia smartmedia adapter to and absolutely nothing happens either.. I hope someone can help.
Thanks very much

Have you pushed the card all the way in? The laptop should give a beep when a PC Card is inserted.
