Considering getting a wired print server for my 5440...don't have an answer for you though. Search at newegg. In any case, bump for you.

I just bought a Linksys PSUS4 (wired 4-port switch with built-in USB print server) at Wal-mart tonight only to bring it home and find out online that it doesn't work with the HL-1440. I know you're looking for a wireless solution, I wouldn't be surprised if other Linksys products didn't work with it either.

Those routers with print "server" ports work a bit differently than a true ethernet print server, and so they often don't work so well.

It seems that Brother laser printers don't work with USB print servers, but they work fine with parallel port print servers. I just picked up an Airlink+ wired print server at Fry's a couple weeks back for about $30, and it works flawlessly. I'd guess that if you got one of their wireless routers with a parallel printer port, it would work fine too.

The 1440 will support a wired built in print server, i'd aquire that and hook the system up to a wirless router and go from there.

It's actually not built-in... it's just something that hooks onto the Centronics port on the back of the printer, and you plug an Ethernet cable into it. That would be fine, if not for the fact that they want $180 for the wired version and $250 for the wireless version. That's six times more for the wired version. I think you'd deserve to be banned from the Hot Deals forum if you wasted that much more money on something that you could get for $30 instead. :p

if you pay MSRP for any pice of PC hardware including a print server your should be shot.... you can find the print server for the 1440 fairly inexpenivly on Ebay, that + a cheap or free after rebate wireless router is all that is required to add this printer to your network for a fraction of the cost of some of the other methods suggested + it's a sure thing it will function correctly unlike some 3rd party print servers... thats like saying it's a bad idea to get a jet direct card for an HP printer if it supports it because "it costs waaay to much" when it's not very expensive.

My old boss had one of these brother printers... was either a 1440 or a 1240 I think. Bought her a nice linksys wireless g print server that supported both usb and parallel. wound up not working with the usb mode of the brother printer but did with the parallel mode.

Don't see why a USB transmitter/receiver thingy wouldn't work. I guess it just depends on required range.

I saw one in a catalog awhile back that didn't seem to require a seperate network/hub/server device and was not IrDA. I don't recall any mention of WiFi or Bluetooth either, but here is something similar that is complete with just two USB plug thingies.
