trying to function with a non-admin account

I am trying to use my pc on a non-admin account for added security but I find that every other thing I do I am logging out to get into my admin account because something doesn't work properly from a limited account.

I tried Sudowin, that was pretty terrible and wouldn't even function in limited, I would get a message saying it was "dead" to me. I heard of winsudo but the page is gone.

My question is, is there an easier utility to give me admin rights to run certain programs? Or is there a way to run Firefox etc. in limited mode? Thanks for any help.

It might be possible to solve your issues with some file-system permissions tweaks... not an ideal solution, but if they work, they work. Also, what specfic version of Windows are you using?

To expand on the file-system permissions tweaks... let's say you have a problem where FarCry can't save games, for example. Find its home folder in Program Files, which I believe would be C:\Program Files\Ubisoft, right-click it > Properties > Security and give the Users group a Modify permission, or Full Control if you have to. Test. Modifying permissions is easier on XP Pro than XP Home, since you can disable Simple File Sharing on XP Pro and work with the permissions in the normal fashion (on XP Home, you would need to start in Safe Mode 😛 )

On WinXP Professional Edition, you can also brew up shortcuts that'll launch an app as the desired user without having to enter the password every single time. It works both ways: you can elevate a program from within your Limited account, or de-elevate it from within your Admin account. The account does need to have a password. Refer to this pic :camera: and simply add runas /user:username /savecred as shown, modify the Start In location as shown, and there you go. It'll only ask for the password the first time, then store it. XP Home doesn't have the savecred capability, but can do RunAs (you'd just need to enter the password every time).

I have XP Pro x64.

k, refer to my edits above and see if that helps. If not, maybe post some examples of what specific programs are hassling you, and how. Basically, the program you're looking for is already built into WinXP Pro as runas.
