This router came free with my modem and has mostly been adequate for my studio apartment the past year but as of late it seems to cut out with a "DNS Server not responding" issue that requires me to unplug it and replug it to get it working again. This is starting to get annoying which has brought me to updating its admittedly poor stock firmware to something more stable like Netgear with the hopes of better results.

I read the tips here http://www.newegg.com/Product/SingleProductReview.aspx?ReviewID=4675932 that pointed me to here http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/d...pload-firmware-to-a-netgear-router-using-tftp but I always get an error during the update.

  1. Unplug all port connections from router except the PC you are using to upload.
  2. Turn router OFF for 10 seconds.
  3. Hold down the reset button on the back of router with a paper clip.
  4. Power ON the router while holding down the reset button.
  5. Watch the Power LED. It starts with orange color, and then will start flashing orange.
  6. Power LED will then turn to flashing green. Count at least 10 flashing green LED and release the reset button.
  7. Click Upgrade button on the tftp2 utility to do firmware upgrade.

I hold in the paper clip and turn the power on but I never see an orange light, they're all always green lights. Different model referenced or am I doing something wrong?

Should anyone stumble across this, I happened to be working with one of these last night. Follow the Netgear directions for flashing a bricked wnr612v2, but when you power on the unit with the reset button depressed per their instructions, start counting the flashes of the power LED. It will never turn orange. It will be on when the unit is turned on, then a moment later it will blink once. A second or two later it will begin to blink quicker. Count for a 10 or 11 eleven blinks total, a mix of fast and slow blinks, then release the reset button and a moment later, click the upload button on the tftp utility. Please note that it will likely take a number of tries to get the timing just right; I played with it for about 20 minutes. Also note that if you reset the 'retries' setting on the upload utility to '1' it'll go a lot faster. I've never had it be successful on a retry so why waste the time? Good luck! - oh, also; the Netgear wnr612v2 firmware works perfectly on the OnNetworks router. Just...don't expect advanced features as the hardware is limited. Still no luck with the latest LEDE/OpenWRT, but so far the attempt have only resulted in soft bricks that are fixable using the process noted above.

There're only 2 options. serial or network.
if network does not work then only serial is left.
Read wiki and find if your device supports TFTP recovery. Use it to reflash the image.
Ensure image is for your device not another
