Ok, long story short...my friend busted his computer. He called me and after seeing the damage I knew I had to reinstall Xp Pro..so after doing that everything is up and running except his Quest DSL.. the CD never made it through the installation because it couldn't ping the ip.

So I caleld quest (before looking at the device manager) and realized that the network adaptor is working fine..but the ethernet controller is "?" So...I tried to find it on the Install CD, since I wasnt sure but I have no idea how to get that ethernet controller in..I would like to go back over there tomorrow and install it..

Thansk in advance....

There should be a manufacturer and name listed for the ethernet controller in the Device Manager. I'd suggest installing the latest drivers from the manufacturer's site.

This are words in English that might be correct language wise but do not make technical sense.

Use this to check the Network hardware and configuration http://www.ezlan.net/debug.html

it sounds like you don't have the correct drivers for the NIC card.

I'm not sure but does a NIC card's link light still come on if the drivers for the OS aren't present?
