We stopped in at Optica in Rancho Mirage on Saturday and she tried on a pair of Cartier sunglasses. They were rimless with a purple hue and had a large panther head etched into the lens on the outer edge of each of the lenses. Unfortunately, I cannot find them anywhere... not even on Cartier's website. The shape of the lens was a wide oval shape but with a hard edge at the top of the outer edge on each side. The tinting went about halfway down the lens and was fairly light (darker at the top of the lens). The arms were metal and thin.

MSRP on these is $1,400.

Can ATOT rise to the challenge?

That them? Not that I'm advocating getting them off fleabay, but is that the right ones?

If it is, they're called "Cartier Panthere" sunglasses, looks to be a handful of designs using that namespace though, so might have to dig a bit to find the right one.

If only they had a phone number you could use to speak with them.

Are you sure the lenses were etched (vs a display decal on temp lenses)? They have a whole collection but I've not seen any with etched lenses.

Yes, they are etched. I asked my wife if she could see the etching while she was wearing them and she said she could not.

Anyway, I called the place and had her send me a pic of the glasses. And when I google the name (Cartier Carlotta) I come up with nothing. Not sure if they are new or not but they aren't even listed on Cartier's website.

Yeah sounds fishy as shit that you can't find a trace of $1400 Cartier sunglasses on even their website. My wife is in the industry and used to work at a high end glasses store and she said she's never heard of something like this before, where you find a model that you can't even find on the company website. If you can't find it on the company website, that typically means it's an old model no longer made, not a brand new model. But if it was older you should be able to find info on it googling very easily.

That said, it doesn't mean that is always the case.

gonna go with this

I highly doubt they're fakes. I bought a pair of Cartier sunglasses from this place last year. It is a high end luxury boutique in Rancho Mirage.

Who sells fake Cartier sunglasses at Cartier prices? This place has been in this location since they opened the River Walk in Rancho Mirage. They sent me a pic of the sunglasses earlier, this is the one I'm looking for. Might just order from them over the phone and have them shipped to me.

Evidently Optika in Rancho Mirage does.

Let's rephrase the question - what things make you believe that this item is real, other than the store (which is not affiliated with Cartier in any way) and the price?

I would just call and ask them why isn't it on their website and why isn't there a trace of it on the internet.

I just found out that they have a location at the Fashion Valley Mall so I may run down there this weekend and see if they have these sunglasses there.

I also bought a pair of Maui Jim's from them for myself last year. They aren't fake.

You were at the Hot Water Casino? We drove right past it on Saturday morning. The house we stay at is in the Rancho Mirage Country Club.

Yes, got there around 6pm, traffic kinda sucked and waited a bit for gas at Morongo.

All I'm saying is in my line of work "Trust but Verify" are words to live by, and Optica in Rancho Mirage is failing horribly at the latter.

*scoff* Only $1,400? I would never be caught wearing something so cheap and inexpensive.

Why would you say that? They have a location in Fashion Valley Mall and they list Cartier as one of the brands they carry there too. It's not as though this is some fly-by-night operation with poor customer reviews. Cartier does sell through other high end stores like Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Ave.
