God... and it's impossible to find WIRED keyboards with decent features these days it seems. Battery shares must be going up the roof. Anyway.

I'm looking for a wired (non negotiable!) keyboard with the following functions:

Play/pause for media
Fast forward/back
Volume control
Possible shortcut buttons to which I can map any programs I want (browser, CD burner, media monkey...)

The media keys are indispensible to me. I just can't live without them as I have music playing out of my PC whenever I have it turned on, all the time.

I don't have much brand or such preference... I'm used to laptop keyboards so I'm not too picky I guess.

Looking into the Logitech K600 or the much more expensive G110... can't find much else that'd fit what I need, and even this one appears quite small...

Thanks :)

Thanks :)

Looking deeper into this, I settled for a K600 gaming keyboard.

Still hesitating about the mouse. Probably not going to spend a lot. But a R.A.T. 5 looks very, very nice...

If you're used to laptop keyboards, you could go for the Logitech illuminated. Has the controls you want, uses scissor-action keys like laptops, is backlit (dunno whether that tickles your fancy or not).

I also like the plunky short-throw, bind-free (for a regular, non-scissor-action dome keyboard) action of the MS Sidewinder X6. Customisable keys aplenty, media controls, going cheap these days.

Thanks.

I was hesitating between the K600 and the G110. I went with the K600 which is rather cheap anyway. If it does all I want it to do, I should be just fine. It's got the volume and media keys I wouldn't have settled without so I seem to be covered.

I also got me a Logitech G500 and a Samsung B2230 screen last night... D:

my ergo ms kb splitty kb 4000 has those..but it depends on the software, in gom/media player classic the media keys work fine. vlc is a bit shiftier on it though, and they've never made it a priority to fix it, its been years.

Dell SK-8135. My favorite keyboard of all time. This keyboard is inexpensive (around $30) but it isn't cheap, it's built very well and will last. My oldest model is five years old and is like new. It comes apart very easy for cleaning as well.

Ports: Two USB 2 ports.

Media Buttons: Volume knob, play, pause, stop, forward, back, mute, aux.

Application Buttons: Forward, back, stop, refresh, home, mail, calc, my computer.

Thanks. This one's actually pretty good, I didn't think about Dell.

I got my K600 today... but not yet my graphics card... Which means I won't be able to start my PC build without it :(

I absolutely love the volume knob on my HP keyboard. Volume knobs don't seem to be very popular on keyboards.

The K600 is what I ended up getting and I'm pretty happy with it so far!

Kind of a weird thing between my laptop's media keys and the K600's (I'm now using it with my old laptop as my PC built isn't done yet):

Media keys work with any media programs, be it minimized or up front, but not on youtube (which I wanted).

The K600 works on youtube but doesn't work when the movie is in the background (it does however work on music in the background)...

Overall it's worth it though. It was a cheap keyboard, I don't get extras like USB ports or maco buttons (which I couldn't care less about). The keys have a little bit more travel than I'd like but I guess I'm used to laptop keyboards more.
