trying to find out how many grease zerks on on car

I don't believe that my car ever gets properly greased/lubed when I take it to a business. So I'll do it myself if I can find all the grease zerks.

Is there a source that will show me the location of all the grease points?

I'm sure that you can find them from a Haynes manual.

But here's a start:
Upper ball joints
Lower ball joints
Inner and outer tie rod ends

I don't know what kinds of steering it has, but it may have one at the pitman arm and the idler arm. If the driveshaft has a slip-spline, you may have one on the housing of the driveshaft. You might also have them on the u-joints in the driveshaft.

That covers it. You're right, there is one at the pitman arm and the idler. My Caprice did not have on on the driveshaft or u-joint though.

My 93 Ford Aerostar doesn't have any, the ball joints are sealed for the life of the vehicle. My van currently has 250,000 miles on it so they seem to work. Maybe your car is the same.

That's a total of 10 zerks, right?

I would have guessed the u-joint would have grease zerks.

WTF is a grease zerk? I've never heard that term, I assume it's the same as a grease nipple. I'm surprised such a new car has any at all (Chev Caprice isn't available where I live) as most cars have their ball and CV joints sealed these days, and the whole joint replaced when it wears.

My mountain bike frame has five zerks. I grease 'em every month. Dunno how many your car has. 😛

iamaelephant: I dunno what a grease nipple is, but it sounds like the same idea. A zerk is a little fitting. You put your grease gun to it and pump some grease in.
