So recently my main laptop a Fujitsu T4220 was spilled on and the keyboard has been on the fritz since. I know I can pretty easily replace/fix this problem, but since the laptop is starting to age and was never meant for bigger workloads, I thought it might be time to replace it with something a bit more hefty. After looking around I've seen that plenty of powerful laptops have dropped in price in the last couple of years from the mid 2000's to mid 1000's. I've been looking at the ASUS G75VW-NS71 as a potential candidate and I wanted to hear from you guys for recommendations.

I'm not looking to play anything with a lot of graphical intensity, but it would be nice to be able to handle 1080p video, some of more casual games on steam, and handle some programming that I need to do for work. Thanks.

Asus G series is pretty hard core. not a lot of battery life if portability is a factor. Do you work on couches? tables? is a backlit keybaord critical? do you play music? want good speakers?

Asus N56 has enough power and runs about $1k
Dell Inspiron
Lenovo Y570 / 580

Go to a store and tinker with the ergonomics to see what feels good.

I just got a Dell Inspiron 15R SE. It has dedicated AMD 7730M and intel hd 4000 w/ WIDI. It's stylish and the casing is mostly a dark metal (with an odd texture). You can get the lower end at around 1k. I like it a lot so far.
