Title says it all. i spent the better part of 2 hours yesterday hunting with Shmee for a good, reasonably priced motherboard, with ICH10R, to replace my XFX 680i LT. the old board isnt recognizing his audigy 2 sound card in the last PCI slot, and the other one is blocked. it has a dead SATA port, and the integrated audio is also dead. the board itself has been the source of a great many pains in my ass in the past as well, so im looking to buy a replacement, RMA it, and sell it on craigslist.

my search criteria: a good overclocking board, with support for crossfire graphics, and a PCI-e X1 slot that isnt obstructed by a GPU with an aftermarket cooler. it needs to take DDR2, since i already have excessive amounts of it.

the problem: i keep coming back to a board which costs a bit more than i was expecting to spend. i already own this board, and it's a damn good board, but i was hoping to spend less than $100. however, once i get within $25 of it i dont see any reason to get any other board. does anyone have any recommendations that may sway my interests? im quite partial to gigabyte due to the quality of their boards, and how few customers i have had return the UD3P based on my recommendation. the 3 companies i dont like to buy from are ECS, Asus, and DFI, for reasons i dont feel a need to get into. any boards from these 3 companies will be shot down simply by being from that company. lets just say i have had some bad experiences to keep it short

its not that i dont want one, its that im trying to see if i can save some money. i will probably just end up getting one, but if someone can recommend something cheaper i might consider it. i run an e5200 on the board with an HD4670, but when i get a new GPU im putting my 9800GTX in there. and in a year or 2 when E0 775 quads are super cheap, i will probably buy one of them as well. i figure i might as well get a good board now and be done with it.

yea and i have a Q9650 already in my main system. this other one hardly gets used right now. the only reason i can justify spending any money on it is because the sound doesnt work. a 3.2ghz dual core is more than fine. if i had that much money to spend on a CPU as well as the mobo, i would put it toward an SSD or a better video card instead lol

he's looking for a 775 socket board, the UD3R or P boards are in a league all of their own when it comes to OCing quads and 775lga

i have a hepafilter under my desk on low running 24/7. with the white noise it creates it's enough to mask the hum of the VRMs. the second system sits with the case closed under my desk, so i wont even be able to hear it down there. it's not as bad on the UD3P as it is on the UD5 either. my friend has a UD5 as i mentioned in another thread today, and when i helped him set it up i remembered it being a bit louder than the hum from mine. it doesnt even matter for him since he is running a TRUE with push/pull 90CFM fans on it.

ed: i should mention i cant hear anything in my computer over my filter (which isnt very loud on low under there), and when im gaming my graphics card cant be heard since i use headphones. it's still there, but it's not loud enough to bother me unless i pay attention to it, and it's definitely not worth sacrificing the build quality of the board for
