Trying to find 4GB DDR2 single modules

I know NewEgg sometimes has some stock of a couple of brands of 4GB modules, 8GB kits, but the prices are insane, and they still can't keep them in stock.

About 6 weeks ago, I finally found some Super Talent 4GB DDR2-800 modules for about $85 each. I snagged four and tested them in a Dell workstation, and they worked great.

A couple of weeks later I found exactly what I was looking for. Aeneon, made by Infineon, DDR2-800 4GB single modules, for a heavenly price of about $45 a pop. I bought 8, tested them, and then bought another 20.

Now these modules are sold out everywhere I have looked, and I have looked HARD. No one can even tell me when they may be in stock again. Even eWiz has been OOS of their ST 4GB DDR2 modules.

Did memory companies miss the boat here? Seems they can't keep up with demand at all. With 2GB modules being priced so incredibly low, and with people paying very high prices for 4GB modules, it seems the memory companies really screwed the pooch here.

Does anyone know if production will get higher for 4GB modules any time soon? With DDR3 around the corner, I hate to guess.

What about 4GB DDR3 single ? I can't find them anywhere that isn't ECC. I was thinking of upgrading my rig to 16 GB using 4GB DDR2, but I read you need to tweak voltage and stuff to get things stable and at low clock. 4GB DDR2 are at the limit. Those 4GB DDR2 sticks you got are a steal at that price though.

for DDR2 sticks, start searching manuf. websites

DDR3, I don't think they're availble, yet?

I saw them in sale on the ncix.com (Canadian) site a few weeks ago, but not the last few weekly sales.

Thanks, those look interesting. Made by the same company, too.

I actually back-ordered some of the Aeneon modules I mentioned in the OP. Hopefully, it won't take them too long to get in stock. They actually had one module in stock. I don't need one, I need 4 minimum. :D

I suspect its because only a couple-few DRAM companies have committed to making 2Gbit chips, and probably producing most under contract rather than mass-producing for the open market because demand is relatively low outside of the server arena (where they would go on registered modules, not unbuffered).
