Hey all,
Waaaaaaay back...I'd say about 1988 or 1989 perhaps....I was at our local mall (back when it was a couple years old and actually full of stores lol) and wandered into the Spencers Gifts there. It was one of my favorite stores back then. All sorts of wacky stuff from rubber chickens to black lights and rubber halloween masks and gag gifts.
Anyhow, I saw a pretty interesting (at the time) product there. It was some sort of device that would take music and make cool designs on whatever surface you pointed the thing at. It made red, yellow, and maybe green lights. I dont wanna call them 'lasers' but that's kinda what they looked like, even though they weren't. At any rate, I bought it and messed with it for a while. A few years later it disappeared though
Info:
-About the size of an old-timey tape recorder (11 X 6'ish inches). Maybe 3 inches thick
-black plastic exterior
-had a 'tilt' adjuster - nothing more than a hinged piece of plastic that fit onto the back of the device freely
-Had an RCA plug on the side where you plugged in the audio source (stereo, tape, radio, amp, etc)
-The thing would get a little hot after a while. Maybe that's why its not around anymore
-Some 'special' bulb had to be ordered if it needed to be replaced.
-on the front/top there was a clear plastic window maybe 2 inches X 5 inches, and inside there you could see a round mirror that looked to be loosely attached to something, and would vibrate to the beat of the music, reflecting the wacky colors all over whatever it was pointed at.
I was trying to figure out what the hell that thing was called as it was pretty cool back then lol. I've looked around on Google for vintage/80's spencer gifts catalogs to no avail.
Attached is the requisite MS Paint drawing lol
