trying to figure out the program used to capture desktop movies

this is really hard to explain... it was a windows utility from MS that would make a .avi of whatever was on the screen.. sort of like a fluid screen capture

Camtasia Studio will do that for you.

camstudio (cut out the "tasia") is free and works.
