Trying to figure out if this is compatible with my mobo or not

Buddy of mine is looking to upgrade his processor because the current one he has right now kinda sucks. Here's the motherboard he has right now http://usa.aopen.com/Products/mb/ax4cmax.htm and the processor he wants to upgrade is this one http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...amp;affiliate=shopping

Could you guys tell me if the processor will be compatible with that specific motherboard he has?

Looks fine to me, but what does he have now? He might be able to just overclock it.

the thing is, he's not really that much of a "guru" with computers...he'd rather upgrade it then risk overclocking and ruining his comp

it doesnt take a "guru" to raise his FSB in bios and put on a memory divider. it takes half a brain and a few seconds. plus, it leaves you with a fatter wallet and some <<gasp>> gained knowledge.

He should give it a try, especially if it's a 2.4C. Those were known to do ~3.0-3.3 easily.

And yeah, it just takes a brain to OC--just don't do anything stupid (unless you bought a $50 AXP to fool around with/blow up for roffles) and you're fine.

thats weird, he has a total of 1 gigabyte memory and it says on that, that he has 4gb

do you know how fast his memory is? pc-3200?

your friend should be able to EASILY hit 3Ghz with that CPU.
