Trying to enable onboard sound on Gigabyte board

Achtung

Senior member
I recently uninstalled the drivers for my SB Audigy sound card because I suspect they may be the source of a BSOD I have been receiving recently in XP. I would like to use the onboard sound on my Gigabyte GA-7VRXP, but I think I need to do something else to enable it. As it is, I don't get any sound out of it. I already set it to "Enable" in the BIOS, but is there something else I need to do? I'm running an Athlon XP 2000+ running Windows XP.

Thanks. 🙂

There could be many different things causing the trouble. Taking the simplistic approach (no offense intended BTW), are you using a "known good" set of powered speakers (plugged in, of course)? Are the speakers plugged into the correct jack on the MB I/O's? Did you go through the manual to see if, in addition to the BIOS, there is a jumper that needs to be physically set on the MB? Have you loaded the drivers for the onboard sound from the (included) CD for the MB? If I were you I would take a step back and start from scratch to make sure each and every detail is covered; from the most basic to the more advanced.
And last but not least, why the heck are you trying to use the onboard sound when you obviously have acess to the SB Audigy? Is it just because of the BSOD's? How much research did you do on the error codes from the BSOD's? Maybe they were not related to the sound. Just a hunch.

i recommend clearing CMOS--this should give the appearance of a refresh reinstall to the OS and it should redetect devices it may been ignoring
