My friend asked me to fix his computer so his wife could use it for her sewing projects. I'm not a big knowledgeable computer geek, but I know more than he does so that is why he asked. I have come here to ask about a couple of things that I've discovered with this older computer. The mobo is a ASROCK K7VM3 with a AMD Athlon CPU. He said he just purchased the mobo and the CPU, but when the computer is turned on there is no video (no POST screen or anything). I've ran through the gamut of possible culprits: bad rail on PSU, unhooked periphials listened for "beep" (no beeps, even with memory stick removed), etc.
I also tried hooking up one of my ATI AGP 4X cards to see if I could get a picture when I turned on his computer and got nothing. This is what led me to believe he may have a bad mobo. I mentioned this to my friend and he went ahead and ordered another one from newegg - a combo deal with a Athlon Duron CPU. It has not arrived yet so I thought I would come here and ask some things before it does.
I've read that the jumper settings for this mobo can be complicated. From the manual I downloaded from ASROCK's web site I see the jumper settings for the different CPU FSB speeds. The board he has now is set to 333MHz (all three pins empty). From what I've read in reviews on this mobo people are talking about other jumper settings, ones which I don't see mentioned in the manual. Is it as hard as people say to set these jumpers and are there more jumper settings than Asrock mentions in their manual?
Thanks for your replies.
