Trying to decide which monitor to get

I've been looking for a new 24" monitor in the $200-300 price range. I currently have a 5-year old Dell 24" monitor that has been getting a little dull in color. My plan is to purchase a new 24" monitor to use for main applications but keep the Dell to the side as extra desktop/folder space.

There are two that appear to be good on Newegg. The only key difference that I notice is one is 1920X1080 native resolution while the other is 1920X1200. My Dell's native resolution is 1920X1200 so I am thinking that I should stay with that if I plan on using a two monitor setup.

Here are the two choices I found but if someone has a better suggestion I am all ears.

I've been out of the technology loop so I don't know the differences between different LCDs. I'd be willing to spend the extra money if it is for a 'newer' technology that has a noticeable benefit while staying away from the ultra high end $500+ range.

I do not fully understand what/why LED is the new trend. It says it is an 'IPS' panel while others are 'TN.' I do not know what the differences are or how one is better than the other. Unfortunately my local stores have a poor monitor selection so I cannot see them to pick out which I prefer.

A 1920x1200 Dell from ~5 years ago is probably a 2405FPW, which is still a very good monitor. You will be disappointed in a TN panel like the ASUS. The HP is a rough equivalent of what you have now though.

I went ahead and ordered the Dell 2412m from that website. I am indeed very happy with my current monitor but I've always wanted a second monitor and now seems like a good time.
